With the change in weather and temperature, you’ll need to adapt your energy use to suit the warmer weather, so here are our top 10 energy tips:
- Lower your thermostat – Warmer weather means you don’t need to heat your house as much as you did over winter, so don’t forget to turn down your thermostat – lowering the temperature by just 1 degree can save up to 3% on your heating bill.
- Immersion settings – We all love super long showers when it’s freezing outside, and over the winter you probably have your immersion on for quite some time each day, so don’t forget to reduce your timer settings as you won’t need as much hot water!
- Switch off the lights – Longer days means lots more lovely natural light filling your home so keep your lights off for longer, every little bit helps lower your energy bills!
- Open the windows – let your home breathe!
- Dry clothes outside – stop using your tumble dryer (which costs about 50 cents to dry a 5KG load of washing on average) and dry your clothes outside.
- Reduce fridge settings – A handy energy tip for later in spring is to increase the temperature of your fridge by 1 degree, which will save you nearly 19c per month.
- Wash your clothes at 40 degrees – Setting your washing machine to a lower temperature of 40 degrees can save you up to €10.86 versus a 60 degree wash.
- Shorter showers – If a family of four spent just 5 minutes less in the shower each day, they would save €32.70 per year, so cut down on those long showers this spring!
