Upcoming Sligo Tidy Towns Bird Watching events

January 2, 2016dkcreative

irdwatch Ireland (Sligo branch) and Sligo Tidy Towns will begin the New Year with two family-orientated Bird Watching events:

Thursday, January 7th

Join us in the Sligo Park Hotel at 8pm for a talk on the Birds of Sligo Town.
Michael Bell from Birdwatch Ireland will give an introductory talk on the wide range and diversity of the bird life in the Sligo town area.

Sunday, January 10th

Join us for a guided walk along the banks of The Garavogue river beginning opposite the County Council Offices and moving on up to Salmon Point beside Hughes Bridge to look for wintering gulls, goldeneye and seabirds.
The walk starts at 12pm – and the meeting point is opposite the Sligo County Council offices at Riverside.
This event is suitable for all the family. Free posters and birdwatching booklets will be distributed on the day.

Both events are free. All welcome.

This looks like an interesting information meeting.

Sligo tidy towns are looking at a number of projects which will enhance the environment and water quality in the garavogue river and lower Lough Gill.

We posted recently about an environmental assessment undertaken by Cartron Bay Residents Association and we will be planning a number of projects on the river over the coming years.

Much of the area is a Special Area of Conservation and we will be commissioning detailed reports on the management of the river.

As we complete this report we will update you on our plans.

We are also planning a series of walks with routes along the river, lake and sea frontage which we are so lucky to have within our town.

Please follow our page for more information as we progress our plans.

There is a link towards the end of the poster where you can register for this event.
